How to make a ribbon and lace tutu

This is a helpful tutorial that shows an intermediate seamstress how to sew a “very” fluffy tutu with lace and ribbon.  Please bear in mind that you do not need to use exactly the same amount of tulle, but, can use an amount that is equal to the amount of lace/ribbon.  If you do not use the exact amount recommended in the video, the outcome of your tutu will not be the same.

  1. Tulle  (Joans, amazon, $>5)
  2. Elastic by the yard (same as above >$2)
  3. Lace (>$2)
  4. Ribbon (>$2)
    1. See how to coupon for your DIY project blog

The tutu below was made using the exact measurements noted in the video for a 1 year old.

Onesie Guestbook

In recent years I have noticed the trend of having a non-typical guestbook at events.  Expecting mother’s/father’s have been requesting a guestbook that can be displayed in the baby’s room.

For under $15 you can make something that will stand the test of time.

Items Needed:

  1. Onesie (buy on sale for >$5)
    1. Aim to use or a plain color
  2. Picture fame (Walmart $8 or Thrift store)
    1. Make sure to buy one that can fit the onesie’s length
  3. Wrapping paper ($1 at dollar tree)
    1. If you are having a large shower, please consider use plain color paper, that way it may also be used a signing area as well.
  4. Stapler
  5. Tape
  6. Fine markers ($1 at dollar tree)
  7. Iron on sheets (Optional)
    1. Please see the tutorial on how to personalize a onesie

  1. First, you should take the picture frame apart and brush off any debris.
  2. Next, wrap and tape the cardboard portion with your wrapping paper, ensuring that the display area is smooth and free from tape.
  3. Then, place the onesie on the cardboard and staple it place. Place the staples under the top layer to hide them from view.
    1. Note: Some staples may show because you may have to fold some portions of the onesie to fit in the frame.
  4. Reassemble the frame.

While at the event, you will need to disassemble the frame once more and keep the glass/plastic out of sight.  Place instructions and fine markers near the onesie and ask the guest to sign it.  At the end of the shower reassemble and present to the mother.

Buying display stands can become very pricey.  In this tutorial I will give you a step by step guide on how to create a display stand for less than $8 per stand if you do not have glue, spray paint on hand or $2 if you currently have glue on hand.

Supplies needed:

  1. Glue (E6000 or Glue Gun)
    1. Please see the how to coupon blog before you acquire this item.
  2. Platter or Plate ($1 at the dollar tree)
    1. Please note that if a large platter or plate is chosen the glass or candle holder rim must be wide to ensure sturdiness.
  3. Candle holder, wine or martini glass ($1 at the dollar tree)
  4. Spray paint (optional)
    1. Please see the how to coupon blog before you acquire this item.
  5. Relatively heavy book (on hand)
  • If you have chosen to spray paint your items you will need to go to a well ventilated area.
  • Spread out newspaper and place the items in the center.
  • Cover the item with the spray following the instructions on the can, it is very important to apply small coats and to be the required distance away to ensure even coverage.
  • After the items have dried, measure the bottom surface of the plate  or platter to find the center.
  • Place glue on the rim of the glass or candle holder and affix it to the center of the plate or platter.
  • While on a level surface, place the book on top of the base of the glass or candle holder until glue dries.
